Meet Your Ayurvedic Practitioners:
Heather Martz
Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, E-RYT 500, Reiki Master
"Hi, I’m Heather.
I first heard of Ayurveda in 2008 when I was attending my initial Yoga Teacher Training program. The program offered us an opportunity to receive an Ayurvedic consultation during our training for a fee. I was fairly new to yoga and knew nothing of the spiritual side of it (yet) and thought, ah, they are just trying to get more money out of us, so I didn’t sign up.
After seeing all my new friends walking around the ashram with tea kettles and herbal formulas and having great digestion while I ended up gassy and constipated, I severely regretted my decision.
A couple of years later, I found myself in grad school, working full time as a Starbucks store manager, and teaching 13 yoga classes per week. Needless to say, I was stressed! A friend of mine recommended that I go and see an Ayurvedic Practitioner in our area. I went and with some very simple recommendations, she was able to make a huge difference in my stress levels.
My diet changed slightly, I started taking herbs, I gained some knowledge around Self care practices, and I learned how to better care for myself. I continued seeing this practitioner monthly for about 6 months. After every visit I had new tools to support myself with which I still use today. During Covid, the opportunity finally arrived for me to go study Ayurveda myself. I had wanted to study with Dr. Vasant Lad at The Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico for several years, so I did exactly that. I graduated as an Ayurvedic Practitioner in June of 2022."
Heather Byington
Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, RYT-200, Licensed Massage Therapist
"I joke about being a recovering workaholic and Type-A personality, but my lack of work/life balance led me to abandon corporate life and become licensed in several wellness modalities.
Back in 2015 while I was still involved in corporate life, I decided to become a certified personal trainer, first just to keep me motivated to stay fit at 41. I've been interested in health and fitness my whole life, but when I was younger it was more about vanity than longevity. I've played sports since I was young, been a gym member since I was old enough to join, and have been practicing yoga since I was 25.
In 2017 I was plagued by chronic migraines that inspired me to resign from my corporate job in HR and to pursue a slower and more meaningful life. I took a continuing education course on fitness nutrition and worked at the local YMCA as a health coach and personal trainer as well as leading various group exercise classes, and when I realized how prevalent sports injuries and back pain were, even among fitness enthusiasts, I decided to become a licensed massage therapist.
My education in wellness gained pretty rapid momentum; In 2018 I started my massage therapy school, finished that in June of 2019 and passed the licensing exam before leaving for Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica in July of 2019. That same year, I enrolled in an online course to become a certified holistic health coach, which I completed in the spring of 2020.
I found Āyurveda through a cookbook in 2018, and while I'm fairly new to the knowledge of this ancient science, it resonated with me in a very profound way. Before I learned about Āyurveda, I had been suffering from severe digestive distress and didn't know why, especially since I ate healthier than most of my peers. I was a vegetarian and ate fresh and clean ingredients, including a lot of salads, which are touted as being very healthy meals. I had just had a colonoscopy to determine what was wrong with me--and according to Western medicine, everything looked fine.
After reading this cookbook, I learned that salads are only a healthy choice if one's constitution can handle them. I realized that as my 45-year-old body and metabolism were changing, my digestive fire could no longer tolerate all the raw foods that I had enjoyed my entire life. I also learned that the solution to my problem was very simple and that I needed to incorporate cooked foods like kitchari into my diet. Once I started following Āyurvedic guidelines, my body responded quickly.
At that point, I could not get enough of this wisdom--I was reading books and listening to podcasts nonstop. Fast forward to July of 2019 in Costa Rica. One of the yoga teachers also taught us about Āyurveda. He was the first Āyurvedic Practitioner I had met in person, so I was eager to have a consultation and find out about my dosha because I had various results from online quizzes. He saw my passion about the vast knowledge of yoga and Āyurveda and recommended that I check out the world-renowned Āyurvedic Institute, where he taught both yoga and Sanskrit.
Before I had even left Costa Rica, I had a deep knowing that I'd be packing up my life in Michigan and moving across the country to become an Āyurvedic Practitioner. I started the program in September of 2020, and I'm currently a NAMA-certified Practitioner, taking a break from the Doctor of Āyurveda path, and have the eventual goal of starting my own practice that will incorporate yoga, massage and Āyurveda."

I am a very STRONG Vata-Pitta! I am working on making some much needed changes in my life. I’m going to start implementing the practices in order to become a better “me”. “I had NO idea it would be this extensive and thorough! I am in a state of wonder - that such accurate information about my own life, habits and physical experiences could be written so accurately…
I must admit I am awestruck, First, the overview of the different Prakriti and Doshas was easily understood and quite interesting. The basics explained a great deal about how influential our parents personal dietary habits and cultural influence have upon our own personal Prakriti.”
- K. Krebs, after a consultation with one of our Ayurvedic Practitoners
...Is that what you've been wondering?
If yes, let us begin by telling you that your concern is completely valid. Not all 5,000 year old solutions are applicable to our modern issues.
BUT ONE IS!
A holistic science focused on wellness & health that addresses not just the problem, but also the root causes of the problem in every detail!
Yes, Ayurveda, a 5,000 year old ancient Science that recognizes a healthy and active lifestyle to be the cure-all for the root-causes of problems that can appear externally as merely 'symptoms'.
But what is even more interesting is that Ayurvedic solutions are not one-size-fits-all remedies.
Ayurveda believes each individual is unique, which is why their health concerns are unique as well! And the solution to the root-causes of every 'symptom' lies in an individual's unique make!
Ayurveda defines this unique make through 3 main bio-elements in the body that are known in Ayurveda as 'Doshas' and combinedly represent the 5 great elements of nature. They are called - Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Kapha consists of the elements of earth and water and is associated with oiliness, juiciness, heaviness. Kapha is the first stage of life – just think of a baby’s juicy and plump skin and the expression “baby soft skin”.
Pitta consists of the elements of fire and water and is associated with heat, sharpness, and determination. Pitta is the second or middle stage of life – just think of a teenager’s acne and hot temper, or a young adult’s drive and ambition.
Vata consists of the elements of air and space and is associated with dryness, lightness, alertness and creativity. In the Vata stage of life, we experience dry, rough and sagging skin, we may feel cold more often, but also reach maturity, wisdom, grace and mastery. During this time, it’s important to focus on practices that are warming, stabilizing, grounding and nourishing.
And as per Ayurvedic philosophies, a person is in their ideal state of health when all the 3 bio-elements are in perfect balance. The balance of the 3 bio-elements can be disrupted by lifestyle changes, environmental as well as emotional & mental stress, ageing, diet etc.
And this is precisely how an Ayurvedic Health Remedy works - by making lifestyle changes that aid in balancing the 'Doshas'!
Our seasoned experts who are practiced and experienced in the field of Ayurvedic health philosophies are trained in identifying the root-causes of your problems - Doshic imbalances, and recommending lifestyle changes to bring the 3 Doshas into balance!
Ayurveda's outlook to a healthy lifestyle is not one-dimensional - it takes a pro-active preventative approach to ensure an intrinsically healthy lifestyle.
It does not just 'scratch the surface' of your problem, but goes deeper into understanding the fundamental concern.
Healthy living should never be a luxury.
We, at The Ayurveda Experience, believe that healthy living shouldn’t be a difficult choice to make, it shouldn’t feel tedious, rather, healthy living should come to everyone naturally. The 5 Life-Altering Benefits of Ayurveda
Our expert recommendations can help enhance your 'agni' (your digestive fire as per Ayurveda) once you start consuming foods that balance your Doshas.
Certain nutritional foods can also inhibit build-up of toxins in your digestive system.
As a result, you'll stop feeling lethargic, and instead start feeling more energetic!
You already know what a healthy diet can do for your body. Changing lifestyle patterns through Ayurveda and a balanced diet can help in managing your body weight. As it’s rightly said in Ayurveda, eating habits are more important than your weight. To choose a diet that will meet your nutritional goals and balance your doshas, consult with our experts.
As humans we are ever-changing, and we figure out with time what isn’t working for us and what’s not making room for better things in life. Ayurveda offers a similar approach to clean your body and mind with a better lifestyle, so your energy levels feel recalibrated.
The holistic approach of Ayurveda keeps your mind in harmony and helps reduce stress overall giving your body the chance to rejuvenate in this fast-paced world.
The goal of Ayurveda is to find and address the underlying causes of dosha imbalances, which can take some time but once you reach there it yields effective and long-lasting benefits working wonders for your skin and hair.
Reading about Ayurveda on the internet is one thing - But talking to our experts is going to be a WHOLE different experience!
Understand your body and your self better, speak out your issues - be that of your skin, body, or even of your mind, and let our Ayurvedic experts help you find an optimized, completely natural solution!
Trusting an 'EXPERT' with your health can feel daunting.
But fret not! Our Experts are Ayurvedic Practitioners who are trained extensively at the top-notch Ayurvedic educational institutions in the United States. As part of their studies, they are exposed to a vast Science of living a life attuned to nature, and let the forces of nature take care of the body.
These professionals don’t merely learn from books, they are remarkable for their ingenuity in Ayurvedic teachings by implementing the principles they learn from those books in their own lives!
Our Ayurvedic experts are prepared to identify and educate about the contributing causes to ill-health and recommend dietary remedies and corrective measures that will aid in realigning an individual with their natural state of wellness.
One visit to a professional may fail to address the root causes of your symptoms and health concerns. Several visits to an expert can become unaffordable, inconvenient and time consuming.
An Ayurvedic consultation can help you learn valuable and effective health tips which you can use throughout your lifetime. Which means less time at the doctor’s office, more money in your pocket, and more happy times with family and friends.
While Western medicine targets symptoms by isolating them from your experience of life, Ayurveda addresses all aspects of your life. Ayurveda provides a holistic approach to healing by understanding how your life-long habits and experiences have impacted your health and recommending easy and specific changes that would help you in the best possible way! All so you can find wholeness (health) once again.
Unlike the vast majority of conventional health and coaching appointments, The Ayurveda Experience offers a complete 100% money back guarantee. If for any reason at all you’re dissatisfied with your consultation you can reach out to our support team, and we’ll give you a full refund.
